More Filipinos in the Middle East Join the Call for #OneForPacman

Filipinos in the Middle East – from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United the United Arab Emirates to the Gulf countries have shown their support for the pound-for-pound champion by throwing their symbolic punches (pounding two fists together and then lunging a left jab); posting their punches online; and hitting the punch meter at ABS-CBN’s oneforpacman.abs-cbn.com.

To date, the site meter has garnered over 45,000,000 virtual punches, symbolizing that any opponent stands to fight against millions of Filipinos when he battles with the eight-division world champion and number three fighter in the world (according to boxing magazine “The Ring”) Pacquiao.

In Oman, the greatest battle of Pacquiao hits home for Jonathan Selgas, founder of Black Stallion Mixed Martial Arts. Pacquiao started young while Selgas is training young athletes. He says: “We’re very excited because this is the most-awaited match in the world and these fighters behind me are eager to watch so we subscribed to TFC.”

Even in Kuwait and even while the boxing ring is far from their own kind of arena, business owners are supporting their kabayan. According to Bahay Kubo restaurant owner Meliza Mendez, “Handang-handa na kami sa Mayweather fight. Isang bayan para Kay Pacman.” (We’re all set for the Mayweather – Pacquiao Fight. One For Pacman!”

Online, TFC.tv subscribers are sharing that they have subscribed already in order to make sure they have better than ringside seats to the fight. Johann Juan of Qatar just joined kabayans subscribed to the fight via TFC.tv: “Kaka-purchase lang po namin ng PPV via TFC.tv.”

Julius Ruckenbrod even created an artwork of the Pinoy boxing legend. He shared via TFC.tv: “I want to share my artwork photo-stencil (which I) carved on styrofoam. Isang suntok para sa bayan!”

Pacquiao Win or lose Pinoys are not only watching the fight, they are also making bold predictions on the turnout. TFC.tv subscriber Melody Carandang proudly declares “It’s Pacman all the way.”

Joining Filipinos in throwing their support are Filipino and Hollywood celebrities alike. News anchors Noli de Castro, Ces Drilon and Ted Failon were the first to throw symbolic punches. Stellar names such as comedienne Pokwang; love team Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil; PBB alumna and teen superstar Kim Chiu have also shown their support on video and online, among other Kapamilya stars.

Actors Mark Wahlberg and Keanu Reeves lead the pack of Hollywood celebrities who are rooting for Pacquiao. Wahlberg recently placed a USD 250,000 bet on Pacquiao. Reeves on the other hand, even visited Pacquiao at home and threw a symbolic punch for Pacquiao.

Adding more weight to the celebrity support are esteemed boxers such as former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson, former four-division champion Mexican boxer Eric Morales and four-division champion Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto who are vocal in saying Pacman is it.

In support of Pacquiao, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel even tried to sing the People’s Champ’s planned entrance song “Lalaban Ako Para Sa Filipino” in two of his show’s episodes and has even offered to enter the arena with the champ during fight night.

Filipinos in the Middle East can join the whole world in witnessing the “Fight of the Century” through exclusive distributor in the Middle East, ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC). The battle between the two legendary fighters can be seen via Pay Per View on TFC live, with English annotations on May 3 at 4 a.m. in KSA and 5 a.m. in UAE.

For kabayans who will not be able to watch the fight from home or from partner establishments, they can still enjoy the fight from anywhere in the Middle East, online via TFC.tv or via the following cable partners, OSN, Du and E-vision only USD 34.

Big screen fans can also catch the fight at Novo Cinemas across the UAE; Laila Theater in Kuwait; Cineco in Bahrain; and Grand Cinecenter in Qatar. TFC also partnered with sports pubs, bars and hotels in the Middle East to provide more avenues to watch the fight.

Mary Jane Veloso Got Last-Minute Reprieve

Facing execution in Indonesia, Mary Jane Veloso gets last-minute reprieve.

During early Wednesday, the eight drug convicts, including two Australians, a Brazilian, four Nigerians and a local, were executed by firing squad, but Veloso received a temporary reprieve.

The eight people were put to death on the high-security prison island of Nusakambangan by 12-man firing squad.

Veloso was saved from execution after suspicions that she was only tricked and might really didn’t know that she had drugs inside her bag.

Maria Kristina Sergio, the alleged recruiter of Veloso who offered her a job in Malaysia, surrendered herself to the Philippine authorities. However, she maintained that she is not a member of any drug syndicate group and she didn’t give the bag to Veloso.

The Indonesian officials declared an 11-hour delay of the firing squad to give way to the investigation of the local authorities of the Philipines.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also confirmed that Veloso was indeed given with the reprieve.

“We are relieved that the execution of Mary Jane has not been carried out tonight. The Lord has answered our prayers,” said DFA spokes person Charles Jose.

Jose refused to answer further question adding that the agency will issue further statement about the case.

“Attorney Edre Olalia said the implementation of the sentence as regards Mary Jane Veloso was suspended until the proceedings in the Philippines against the alleged recruiter Christina Sergio shall have been commenced and concluded,” Minerva Lopez of the National Union of People’s Lawyers said.

Indonesian President Jakowi Widodo has been vocal about his support on death penalty saying the country needs to move into fight against illegal drugs.

"Inalis sakin lahat ni God ngayon. Gusto ko ishare sa inyo yung isang side ng Paolinne Michelle Liggayu ngayon.

Weak.

Nothing.

Helpless.

Pero alam ko one day, someday, maiintindihan ko lahat ng nangyayari ngayon. Sobrang depressed pa rin ako til now.

In my own little ways. Thank you. Thank you sa mga natira sakin. Kung may pinagdadaanan ka rin ngayon, di ka nag iisa. Hug... We can do this. Just pray. Pray harder. Don't give up. Ask for God's embrace. Someday ngingiti rin tayo ng totoo. God loves you very much. Be blessed. "

#OneForPacman Garners Over 18 Million Punches in Support of Manny Pacquiao

ABS-CBN’s innovative “Punch ng Bayan” of its Isang Bayan Para Kay Pacman campaign has gone full bore in just its first week in its efforts to spur the People’s Champion to bring home more glory for the country.

The number has been staggering in terms of how many punches the campaign has gathered so far. The punch meter has amounted to 18,735,253 punches as of 1PM, Saturday.

According to ABS-CBN Sports head Dino Laurena, “The campaign’s aim is to rally everyone to be one for Manny. We want to show the world that behind every Pacquiao punch is the strength of the Filipino people. For 20 years he fought for us, it’s time we give back and support him.”

Even popular Kapamilya stars have thrown their support for Manny Pacquiao as they mimicked one of his glaring habits: pounding his fists together, twice, before lunging for a jaw-breaking left straights or punishing body blows.

“Everyone can show their support for Manny Pacquiao by using #OneForPacman hashtag for every tweet or post in Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, or they can have fun with the punching bag at the website oneforpacman.abs-cbn.com. Or text ONEFORPACMAN using ABS-CBNmobile,” he added.

The Kapamilya network believes that for every punch tallied, Manny Pacquiao is inspired more knowing that his fellow Filipinos are one with him in his fight.

Jolina Magdangal on Impersonating Manny Pacquiao: ‘Win or Lose I’m Happy’

Pop icon Jolina Magdangal will be impersonating no other than boxing champ Manny Pacquiao this weekend (April 18 and 19) in the top-rating “Your Face Sounds Familiar.” And the pressure on her seems to be building up as the whole country anticipates his mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“That I got assigned to impersonate Manny Pacquiao comes at a perfect time. It was not intended to happen just because he has an upcoming fight. Any of us could have been picked to transform into Manny. Whether I win or lose, I’m happy that I get to impersonate him,” said Jolina.

“Those who are unable to come near him should just take a picture with me,” she joked.

This is not the first time Jolina will be impersonating a man, as she previously impersonated Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose. She said she even finds impersonating men more exciting because it makes her look entirely different.

“Manny Pacquiao has a distinct sound, moves, and facial expression. He has a signature smile. I’m pressured but more excited. Copying his voice and how he talks will definitely be the most challenging part. I’m also hoping that I will look exactly like him so I can pull it off,” added Jolina.

Meanwhile, Jay-R’s is more inspired to study his music icons especially after the real Alice Cooper posted on Twitter a link to the RnB star’s performance as the rock icon in “Your Face.”

Co-performers Maxene Magalona and Edgar Allan Guzman, on the other hand, also have a tough task of impersonating music icons of the opposite gender. They will transform into Vhong Navarro and Toni Gonzaga, respectively.

Karla Estrada will again show off her vocal chops as Mariah Carey, while Tutti Caringal will be made over as Aeromsmith vocalist Steven Tyler. Nyoy Volante will try rapping as Apl de Ap, while Jay-R and Melai Cantiveros will impress as their own versions of Tom Jones and Cyndi Lauper.

Don’t miss “Your Face Sounds Familiar” Saturdays after “MMK” and Sundays after “Rated K” on ABS-CBN. For program updates, like www.facebook.com/yourfaceph, follow @YourFacePH on Twitter and Instagram, or visityourfacesoundsfamiliar.abs-cbn.com.

English translation of “Lalaban Ako Para Sa Filipino” by huffingtonpost.com

Often I ask myself

Why be judged for what you feel?

What will it take for us to be heard?

Do we have to be born with privilege?

Even though it hurts me,

I’ll keep it all inside and not speak of it,

My heart bleeds, but others don’t see it

Because what’s more important

Is that my people are happy

I’ll fight the world in your name

I am Filipino, we are Filipino

I’ll fight the world, even risk my life

I will fight for Filipinos

We all have dreams for our country

To help or honor our people

It doesn’t matter who you are

Rich or poor

Together we fight for our country

I’ll fight the world in your name

I am Filipino, we are Filipino

I’ll fight the world, even risk my life

I will fight for Filipinos

I will fight…

I will fight…

I’ll fight the world in your name

I am Filipino, we are Filipino

I’ll fight the world, even risk my life

I will fight for Filipinos

I will fight for Filipinos

I will fight for…

My country

Ai-Ai delas Alas Considers Kris Aquino 'A Former Friend'

For comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas, television host-actress Kris Aquino is now "a former friend and a former roommate."

In an interview with Gorgy Rula during the press conference of her contract signing with GMA, Ai-Ai just noted of the reality that she and Kris is now a former friends stating the fact that they are staying with two networks.

"Dahil unang-una, hindi na kami roommates, magkapitbahay na lang kami," said Ai-Ai when asked if their friendship got back. "Kasi nandito na ako [sa GMA], nandoon pa siya [sa ABS-CBN]."

And when asked if she still consider Aquino a friend, Ai-Ai hesitated.

"A friend… hindi nasagot!" said Ai-Ai laughing. "Siguro ano na lang… a former friend and a former roommate."

Aquino and delas Alas had a rift reportedly that stemmed when Aquino was not able to be with her when her mother died. According to Ai-ai they were able to settle their differences last December, during Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes' wedding.

After they reconciled, Aquino gave delas Alas a golden necklace with pendants depicting the image of Virgin Mary, to where delas Alas is a devotee.
