Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has finally changed his mind and decided that he is running for president.

“Yes, I am running,” said Duterte in an interview with Rappler on Sunday.

Earlier, Duterte said the “Tanim Bala” as well as the Senate Electoral Tribunal’s (SET) decision over Grace Poe’s case made him think about running for the highest position in the land.

Duter believes that Poe, who is a foundling, is not a natural-born citizen of the country and based on the book, only natural-born citizens will have the chance to run for president.

He said the SET’s is against the constitution.

Earlier that day, in a forum with the doctors in Iloilo City, Duterte said he won’t accept the decision.

“I’m terribly disappointed. Pwede pala maski hindi natural born. I’ve been warning everybody, I said I am not interested, it does not appeal to me and I do have a need for it. Pero pag ganito ang laro ng ating bayan, the option to run is on the table,” said Duterte.

Noting that he doesn’t have anything against Poe, he recalled that the latter had used her American passport during her trips abroad.

“There is a central rule by the Supreme Court (SC) which says when you use an alien passport thereby representing you to be a citizen of another country, you have renounced the Philippine citizenship,” said Poe.

Duterte also noted when he came to a point of becoming the leader of the Filipinos, he noted that he won’t just sit. He will do something for the change, or he won’t run at all,” said Duterte.

Duterte have repeatedly insisted that he will not be running for president citing his family’s disagreement, old age and lack of enthusiasm to the position.
