BREAKING NEWS: Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Withdraws COC For Mayor, Files For President. It's now official Duterte is running for president!

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy for president in the 2016 elections, shortly after withdrawing his COC for re-election.

A certain Atty. Salvador Medialdea filed Duterte’s COC on his behalf at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) law department on Friday. Attached was his certificate of nomination and acceptance from the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

On Friday morning, Duterte appeared in Davao’s Comelec office along with his daughter, Inday Sara. He formally withdrew his bid for mayor. The former replaced the latter as substitute candidate of local party Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod.

Duterte is replacing Martin Diño, who withdrew his candidacy for president under PDP-Laban. He was declared by the poll’s body nuisance candidate.

Political parties still have until December 10 to substitute a certain candidate.

However, the COC of Diño is in question because he is running for Pasay Mayor. Some experts also believe that the COC of a nuisance candidate cannot be substituted. The mayor also filed his COC as Candidate of Hugpong Tawong Lungsod, despite being a member of PDP-Laban.

Duterte said he is running because of principle after the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) voted in favor of Grace saying he doesn’t want Philippines to have an American president.
