The parents of the child who was filmed being dragged around on a leash have spoken. They handed themselves in to social services after there was online backlash over the horrifying images they posted online, showing their naked child crouched over a bowl of dog food.
The parents, who declined to face the camera, never knew that the simple upload of their baby's picture will change their family.
The mother said the baby played on the shoelace and tried to mimic their Shih Tzu, who have just given birth. It is also a co-incidence when they were feeding their dogs that's why, a bowl with dog food was there.
She noted that everything was just for fun.
"Yung sintas po ng sapatos kinuha po ng anak ko. Pinaglaruan niya. Mismong nilagay niya sa leeg niya. E meron kaming asong baging panganak na Shih Tzu. Kumbaga, nakikita ng bata. Tapos ginagaya niya. E natiyempo pa na nagpapakain kami ng aso nun. Kaya yung nakita niyo po sa video na dog food, kaya naisama siya dun. Napagkatuwaan na din siya," said the mother.
The father of the child, on the other hand, asked the people to stop bashing them.
"Kilala ko ang asawa ko. Sa mga nagcocomment, sana tigilan niyo na kami," said the father.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said they now have the custody of the one-year-old child and noted that he is in good condition.
Assistant secretary JV Jimenez said the photo might send a wrong impression to the people noting that they "violated that right of the child."
The parents might also be facing legal charges following the incident.
