Manny Pacquiao Faces $5 Million Lawsuit Over Shoulder Injury

Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is facing lawsuit in U.S. court for allegedly not disclosing his shoulder injury.

Staphane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran, who are residents of Clark County, Nevada, filed the lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao, Top Rank Inc., Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, Michael Koncz and Top Rank President Todd Dubeof.

The lawsuit, which was filed before the US District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada, is for “alleged failure to disclose and injury sustained by Pacquiao before Saturday’s world unification welterweight championship bout.”

Both Vanel and Rahbaran are purchasers of “tickets and/or pay per view event” of the said “Fight of the Century.”

Reuters tried to get comments from Top Rank Promotions and Manny Pacquiao, but failed. Both lawyers did not return any calls.

After the fight, where he lost via a unanimous decision, Pacquiao said, in a press conference, that he injured his shoulder during training and asked for an anti-inflammatory shot before the fight. The Nevada Athletic Commission denied his request.

It appeared that the team of Pacquiao didn’t inform the Nevada Athletic Commission about the shoulder injury until a couple of hours before the fight starts. During the filling out of the pre-fight medical questionnaire on Friday, Pacquiao’s team ticked “No” in the shoulder injury query. The form was signed by Pacquiao and his advisers.

Pacquiao insisted that he didn’t fight with any sickness.

“Hindi ako lumaban nang may sakit,” said Pacquiao. “Nawala naman ang sakit ng shoulder ko (kaya natuloy ang laban).”

Pacquiao added that the injury didn’t affect his performance. He is also optimistic that the injury won’t affect his career.
