In an interview with Inquirer, Edward Villanueva, 49, from Sta. Cruz Manila said Daniel Marsh, who is a member of the boy group “Juan Direction,” who are foreigners with Filipino blood and use to appear in TV5 documentary, flagged him in front of the Prive Luxury Club at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and asked him to be taken to Tivoli Garden Residences in Mandaluyong City.
Along the way, Villanueva claimed that the Fil-Irish man complained about losing his wallet at a club and asked if he could ride the cab for free.
When they arrived he refused to give the foreigner a free ride and much to his surprise, Marsh threw him P100, left the car, shut the door hard and kicked the trunk and bumper of the vehicle.
When Villanueva alighted the vehicle, Marsh hit him in the face and body. He didn’t fought back knowing Marsh was drunk and moments later the security personnel to pacify both parties.
Witnesses testified noting of a “foreigner-looking young man, cursing, kicking and [hitting] the taxi he [had] alighted from.”
Marsh, on the other hand, said he was provoked. He noted that when he was fetched by the driver, the man doesn’t want to meter the ride and was asked to pay P500 for that short trip.
“I got into a cab from the Fort Strip and he didn’t turn on the meter. I pressed the meter button and there was obviously tension in the cab. When we reached my destination, I gave him P100 then he said, ‘You give me P500!’ He was insisting on being paid was way too much. Seriously, I even gave you a tip the meter was only around the P70 mark.”
He even noted that the cabbie was the first one to make an aggressive move by grabbing him in the throat.
“We were having an altercation inside the cab because of the verbal aggression of our argument and then he grabbed me by the throat. He physically grabbed me first. It wasn’t a simple flare-up. He initiated it. He was insistent on trying to get it out of me. What am I suppose to do in that situation?” Marsh said.
He denied that he asked the driver for a free ride. But that amount was too much.
Marsh then apologized to his fans and to the public for the incident. He also has no plans of putting things in legal matters.
