Pope's open air mass sets world record with six million Catholics for papal gathering.
The rain did not stop Filipinos in celebrating the mass with Pope Francis. Filipinos are famous for practising a passionate brand of Catholicism and they turned out in a joyous mood that defied the stormy skies.
According to the Archbishop of Manila Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who acted out as a chapperone, Pope Francis was stunned by the number of crowd that was waiting for him.
The previous record of a papal gathering mass was 5 million during Pope John Paul's visit in 1995. But the present occasion drew 6 million people at the same venue.
In his mass, he spoke about three themes: "Poverty", "Ignorance", "Corruption", which he drew attention from the very first day of his visit.
The people patiently waited for the once in a lifetime chance of seeing the blessed Pope Francis at the mass which was held at the Quirino Grandstand.
