The "Queen City of the South," Cebu City now holds the newest Guinness World Record for having the largest Zumba class ever recorded. The achievement of the Filipinos is the newest record recorded from the Philippines by the world's most popular Guiness book of world records.
The city just broke the record of India in terms of the "Most Number of Participants in a Zumba Class." The event, which was held in SM CIty Cebu parking lot was held successful with a total of 8,232 participants coming from all walks of life.
The previous record, which was held in People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad in India had 6,671.
Guiness required at least 30 minutes of non-stop basic Zumba lesson before the attempt was declared successful, according to the official timekeeper Joel Barring of Sports Fitness Enthusiasts.
Human Pink Ribbon Formation Failed
The event is actually intended to break two records in one. First is to break the "Largest Human Pink Ribbon Formation," which was also currently hold by India with 6,847 participants. The Philippine attempt fell short with 237 as some participants failed to wear pink shirt and headband.
"Everything was perfect. The people are so amazing and so lively. They just fall short on numbers in the largest human pink ribbon formation," said Guiness World Record adjudicator Provin Patel said.
Two more world record were attempted to break by Cebu City — The "Largest Archery Tournament" with 13,102 participants and the "Largest Archery Lesson" with a total of 754 students. The event was held at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The current record for the tournament was currently hold by USA via the National Archery with 9,426 participants May of last year.
The proceeds of the record-breaking largest Zumba class event will go to the classroom rehabilitation program for schools in Northern Cebu, which was affected last year by super typhoon Yolanda. These attempts was already planned two years ago, but was cancelled due to the typhoon.
