A 17-year-old fresh man student of the University of the Philippines (UP) in Los Banos, Laguna was raped near the school campus, UPLB vice-chancellor Dr. Enrique Tolentino confirmed.
Laguna Philippine National Police (PNP) Director Senior Florendo Saligao said the victim came from a school quiz contest and rode a tricycle in Barangay Maahas at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2014.
While traveling along the Burot area, the tricycle driver told the victim that they run out of gas and asked her to alight the vehicle. The suspect then forcibly pulled her to the rice field where the rape happened.
She was then left in the area.
One of the security personnel of the university found the lady walking in the area. She was brought to the hospital right after.
Suspect Arrested, Admitted Crime
The PNP, Laguna arrest Jose “Joey” Montecillo at around 12:45 a.m. on Friday. He was arrested in the house of his aunt in Palawan, Laguna.
The police got a lead when the wife of Montecillo, who had just given birth, informed them that she received a letter from him asking forgiveness for the crime he committed. He also told her that he will go hiding.
During the interrogation, Montecillo, who already had five children, confessed.
According to Saligao, Montecillo saw the student walking alone probably away from the tricycle terminal – manned by barangay tanods – to avoid long queues. He then offered her a ride with the intentions of raping her.
Story of Given Grace
The student was raped along IBP Road, where Given Grace Cebanico, was also raped and killed in 2011.
Taking up Computer Science in the said University, Given Grace’s body was seen on Monday night, October 10, 2011 with her hands tied, mouth gagged with a handkerchief. She sustained stab wounds that was later declared as the cause of her death.
Her body was dumped in canal near the said area which is in between the boundary of the university campus and Rich Research Institute.
Her parents reported her missing days before her dead body was found dead.
A certain Percival de Guzman, 38, and a tricycle driver was arrested. He was one of the two suspects.
